World Kannada Meet likely to be postponed again

Bangalore, Aug 8 (UNI) The World Kannada Meet scheduled to be held in Belgaum in September was likely to be postponed due to elections to the Urban Local Bodies, Karnataka Minister for Kannada and Culture H S Mahadevaprasad said today.

Talking to newsmen here, he said that he would consult both the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister to fix fresh date for the Meet.

It may be recalled here that the Meet has already been postponed twice due to various reasons including Cauvery agitation.

The Minister said that a joint survey by Karnataka and Tamil Nadu had been taken up in Hogenakal, bordering Tamil Nadu to settle dispute over a tiny island. The survey department had identified a tri-junction point near Kollegal for taking up the survey and the work would be completed soon to settle the dispute.

He said that the proposed Janapada Study Centre would start functioning after the nine-member expert committee submits its report on its working system within a month.

He said the government as already sanctioned Rs five crore for the setting up of the folklore study centre at M M Hills.
