Vacant posts through promotions to be filled in 3 months

Mumbai, Aug 8 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh today directed concerned authorities to fill in vacant posts through promotions in various government departments within three months.

The General Administration Department (GAD) made a presentation to the Chief Minister at today's cabinet meeting, after which Mr Deshmukh issued the directives.

There are total 7,29,886 posts in the state, out of which 1,09,996 posts are vacant. The total number of posts in Zilla Parishads is 3,49,482, out of which 21,950 are lying vacant.

Mr Deshmukh said the vacant posts, to be filled through promotions, will be filled in three months. If the concerned departments fail to meet the target, responsibility will be fixed and appropriate action would be taken.

The cabinet also decided to start civil and first class courts in 53 talukas, which do not have the same and also provide the neccessary infrastructure.

The cabinet also gave a green signal to enact a new legislation, making urban civic bodies to enact a Public Disclosure Law as part of the urban reforms under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).

Professionals -- individuals, organisations and establishments, who are into different professions without proper registration -- will be given concessions in interest and penalty. The anmesty scheme will be in force from September 1 to October 31.

Professionals, who do not have registration certificate between April 1, 2002, to March 31, 2007, can pay the entire professional tax for the period of the amnesty scheme and 10 per cent of the amount for the period between April 1, 2002, to March 31, 2007.

Similarly, there will be a waiver of interest and penalty on the professional tax till March 31, 2002.

Registered institutions or establishments who have completed their tax assessment till March 31, 2007, will have to pay the full professional tax. If they pay 10 per cent of the total amount of interest and penalty arrears, the remaining amount will be waived off.
