Taxi driver detained in bank loot case
Bhopal, Aug 8 (UNI) Police has claimed to have detained a taxi driver and recovered from his Ambassador car Rs 2.60 lakh, believed to be part of the booty of Rs 12 lakh looted from a bank in New Market area in the state capital last evening.
Superintendent of Police A K Singh told UNI that the Maruti car, used by three criminals while looting the cash being taken by two bank employees in a three-wheeler for its safe custody in UCO Bank's Board office branch, was found in an abandoned condition in Jehangirabad locality here. The box was also found in it.
During vehicle checking at Parvalia on Bhopal-Bioara road last night, the taxi driver was detained along with the cash, while its two occupants who hired the taxi for Biaora gave a slip. The taxi driver was being interrogated, Mr Singh said.
Three car-borne armed youth attacked two bank employees, including a woman, and looted the cash. Driver of the three-wheeler, in which the cash was being taken by the bank employees, gave a chase but stopped midway to alert a police patrol.
