Sorcerers make futile attempt to bring life in a corpse

Kendrapada, Aug 08 (UNI) Two women sorcerers, who promised to revive life in a corpse with their miracle divine power, finally fled from the scene after all their attempts turned futile.

The incident happened in the Jagatsinghpur district headquarter hospital in full presence of police, doctors and hundreds of curious visitors besides the family members of the deceased.

Driven by blind faith, the family members of deceased Kabita Bhuyan of Jankoti village under Jagatsinghpur police station had made all efforts to call two female sorcerer to bring back Kabita into life.

Kabita died of snake bite on Monday night while collecting straw from the house to give it to her cattle. The family members took her to a sorcerer of Tartanga area for treatment.

But when her condition deteriorated, she was taken to a local hospital at Mandasahi but she was declared brought dead by the doctors at the hospital.

Later, the hospital sent the body for autopsy to the District headquarter hospital.

Kabita's relatives invited two female sorcerers, who claimed that they would revive life in her.

The two sorcerers - Sanjuta Das and Ms Lakra - arrived at the Jagatsinghour district headquarter hospital on the night of Monday and kept the body of Kabita on the table of the hospital dressing room.

The sorcerer created two pictures of cow and cobra in the wall of the dressing room and started chanting mantra near the body giving hope to the family members that Kabita will revive life once again.

The rituals continued for more than an hour in presence of hundreds of local people, doctors and police personnel, who witnessed the ''drama'' as a mute spectators.

But on Tuesday afternoon all the hopes of the family members shattered when the black magician's claim of possessing miracle power failed to bring back life to the cadaver. The two sorcerers then fled from the scene.

When contacted a doctor of Jagatsinghpur District headquarter hospital said the family members of the deceased urged the doctors to give an opportunity to allow the sorcerers to revive life on the corpse.

He said though the doctors knew that Kabita will never get back to life, they did not oppose the request of the family members to try their luck on humanitarian angle.

Later, the body was inquested in presence of a local magistrate and sent for autopsy.
