Sonia to inaugurate broad gauge section on Aug 12

Chennai, Aug 8 (UNI) Congress President and United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Chairperson Sonia Gandhi will inaugurate the newly converted Manamaduri-Rameswaram broad gauge section and flag off the first train between Rameswaram and Chennai on August 12.

According to a Southern Railway release here yesterday, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad would preside over the function. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi would also be present.

The inaugural Rameswaram-Chennai Egmore Express would leave Rameswaram at 1630 hrs on August 12 and arrive here at 0715 hrs, the next day.

The regular service would commence on August 13, the release added.

Chennai Egmore-Rameswaram-Chennai train would leave Chennai- Egmore at 1700 hrs and arrive at Rameswaram at 0515 hrs, the next day, while in the return direction, it would leave Rameswaram at 2230 hrs and arrive at Chennai-Egmore at 1115 hrs, the next day, the release added.
