Six arrested for fraud, misuse of bank drafts worth lakhs

New Delhi, Aug 8 (UNI) The Delhi police has busted a racket involving theft of bank drafts from a branch of Syndicate Bank in the capital and their use at various banks and open market with the arrest of six persons engaged in the crime.

The persons identified as Lalit Kumar, Harjit Singh, Raj Kumar Gupta, Rakesh Chauhan, Hakim Singh, Akhil Mukherjee and Y Prakash Rao were arrested by the Interstate Cell of Crime Branch, Chanakyapuri, Delhi for their involvement in a racket of theft of bank drafts from a branch of Syndicate Bank in the city and then cheating after forging and using the stolen bank drafts, both at various banks and in the open market.

Some of the stolen bank drafts have been recovered from the accused. They had bought a dozen laptop computers with the forged bank drafts. One laptop has already been recovered while seven others have been disposed off in Hyderabad and shall be recovered subsequently.

The arrest of the six followed registration of an FIR at Dwarka when the drafts were found missing from the Pochanpur, Dwarka branch of Syndicate Bank. The local police managed to apprehend one suspect namely Pankaj Gupta but the rest of the gang went under ground.

Yesterday, a team of the Delhi Police managed to pick up Harjit and Raj Kumar Gupta near Paras Cinema Hall, Nehru Place at about 1415 hours. At their instance, their four associates were also apprehended.

A massive manhunt has been launched for their absconding associate Rajesh Aggarwal. Further investigation in the case is on.
