Railway revenue earnings up 10.49 per cent

New Delhi, Aug 8 (UNI) Buoyed by phenomenal strides in both the revenue and passenger segments, the Railways earned Rs 21,787.89 crore during the first four months of the current fiscal as compared to Rs 19,718.67 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 10.49 per cent.

The goods earnings increased from Rs 13,328.01 crore during April-July 2006 to Rs 14,593.02 crore during the corresponding period this year, showing an increase of 9.49 per cent.

The total passenger revenue earnings during the first four months of the financial year 2007-08 were Rs 6,331.14 crore while it was Rs 5,677.59 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 11.51 per cent.

The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs 611.88 crore as compared to Rs 521.12 crore during the same period last year, showing an increase of 17.42 per cent.

The sundry earnings went up from Rs 191.95 crore to Rs 251.85 crore, marking an increase of 31.21 per cent.

The approximate number of passengers booked during April-July this year were 2206.55 million as compared to 2094.02 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 5.37 per cent.

In the sub-urban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked were 1196.67 million and 1009.88 million as compared to 1138.52 million and 955.50 million during the same period last year, an increase of 5.11 per cent and 5.69 per cent respectively.
