PGI doctor conducts SAARC Workshop on Pelvi-Acetabular Trauma
Chandigarh, Aug 8 (UNI) Patients with pelvic and acetabular fractures -- the injuries managed by non-operative treatment by most orthopaedic surgeons in SAARC region so far -- can now be successfully treated surgically.
Dr Ramesh K Sen, Additional Professor, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research here, performed two live surgical demonstrations on patients with these injuries during a SAARC orthopaedic surgeons workshop held in Nepal recently.
The two-day workshop on surgical management of pelvic and acetabular fractures was organised at Nepal Medical College, Kathmandu, by the Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons of SAARC from August 4 under the technical guidance of Dr Sen.
The other faculty members for the workshop were Prof Parvej Anjum from Pakistan and Prof Wakaikul from Thailand.
Forty orthopaedics surgeons from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal were imparted the surgical skills by lectures, hands on exercises on bone models, cadaver dissection and surgical video.
Dr Sen, the Course Director, performed two live surgical demonstrations on patients with these injuries hitherto considered difficult to be operated due to their complexity.
Dr Sen, who is also secretary of Association of Pelvi-Acetabular surgeons of India, learned the skills of this surgery in Germany with Prof Kinzl and in USA under Prof Helfet.
Dr Sen, a pioneer in this surgery in the country, has conducted similar workshops earlier in Kuala Lumpur and in many parts in India. He has been invited as course Director for another such course to be held in Lahore in November this year.
