New Delhi, Aug 8 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today allowed a lawyer seeking restrictions on the usage of diesel cars in the capital to approach the Supreme Court as a similar petition was pending there.

Justices T S Thakur and Kailash Gambhir dismissed the petition of Meet Malhotra who sought to curb the usage of diesel cars in the capital which are a threat to the environment.

In a writ petition, Malhotra stated that the Supreme Court had banned diesel buses as they are not environment friendly.

Buses, autos and other vehicles were now running on CNG causing less pollution. He stated that crores of rupees have been spent to change diesel buses and autos into CNG run vehicles which is being rendered useless on account of increasing numbers of diesel cars.

The petitioner states that the state of Delhi is now allowing new cars which are running on diesel and every year thousands of diesel cars are being introduced in the capital which has resulted in an increase in environmental pollutuion.

The petitioner claims that if diesel vehicles are not banned from the capital then the city will become polluted again.

The diesel which is sold at a subsidised rate and is allowed to be used by the farmers for their tractors, generators, electric motors etc is now gaining popularity in the small cars sectors. Car manufacturers are producing more and more diesel cars and luring car drivers to buy diesel cars as they are cost friendly.

The petioner also stated that the state has never taken any precautionary and preventive steps on their own to curb pollution.they only wait for the directions from the court which are are forced to be implimented.

The petitioner will soon approach the Supreme Court. His plea will be heard along with other environment related petitions.
