Over 150,000 stamps to be on display during'Karnapex-2007'fromAug10

Bangalore, Aug 8 (UNI) More than 150,000 stamps will be on display during the 10th edition of Karnataka Philately Exhibition 'Karnapex-2007' beginning here on August 10, Chief Post Master General, Karnataka Circle Meera Dutta said today.

Talking to newsmen here, she said that Over 500 frames, including 121 from Juniors under the age group of 11 to 18 and 20 frames from school collections would be set up during the three day exhibition.

She said that renowned philatelists Dr Sita Bhateja, will display her collections on Great Britain and Pre-Independence India, while Ms Kusum Mehta, another well-known philatelist will display her collections on Morhi (Former Indian State Saurastra) apart from Pradip Jain, a keen philatelist from Kolkata.

Thematic collections from philatelists based on the themes of Mahatma Gandhi, Women on stamps, Science and Technology, Sports, Space, Astronomy, Endangered species, Festivals, Flora and Fauna.

The main feature of KARNAPEX-2007 will be display of collections of handwritten letters of Karnataka Literary giants Kuvempu and Da Ra Bendre and others.

Ms Dutta also informed that the winners of Silver medal and above in Karnapex-2007 exhibition are eligible to participate in the National exhibition 'National Philatelic Exhibition-INPEX-2008' scheduled to be held in Chennai from January Two-2008.

The department of Posts will pay tribute to the martyrs of first freedom struggle in 1857, by releasing a set of stamps on First War of Independence tomorrow, she said.
