NSCN-IM cadres on firing spree kill four

Silchar, Aug 8 (UNI) Altogether four people were killed in militant firing at Harinagar market in Cachar district yesterday.

Police here today said a group of 15 militants with AK-47 rifles started firing at a shop, killing three on the spot last night.

Another succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

Police said the suspected anti-talk faction of Dima Halam Daoga (Black Widow) and NSCN-IM cadres went on the firing spree for 20 minutes and fled to a nearby jungle in North Cachar Hill district.

The area is militant dominated, police added.

Senior police officials along with a contingent of security forces from Silchar and Lakhipur police station had rushed to the place and started a combing operation to nab the militants.

The district administration had sounded red alert throughout the district after the incident, official sources said.
