NDA to raise Goa issue in monsoon session of Parliament
Panaji, Aug 8 (UNI) The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has decided to raise the issue of ''murder of democracy in Goa'' in the Monsoon session of Parliament, beginning August 10.
Disclosing this to mediapersons here today, leader of the opposition in the Goa assembly Manohar Parrikar said the NDA was determined to expose the alleged ''controversial, partisan, illegal and unconstitutional role played by the Goa Legislative Assembly Speaker Pratsapsingh Rane on July 30''.
He said at the same time, all the 20-member anti-Congress coalition of Goa Democratic Alliance, backed by the NDA, would sit in dharna at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, reiterating its demand for dismissal of the ''minority'' government, headed by Digambar Kamat.
The GDA would spare no effort to expose the dubious role of even the Goa Governor in the episode on July 30 in the Assembly, which he described as a ''Black Day'' in the history of Goa.
All the 20 legislators of the GDA had already filed individual petitions in the Supreme Court last week seeking re-trial of strength on the floor of the House or dismissal of the government.
The purported move of the Congress resorting to filing of disqualification petitions against UGDP member Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate and an independent and chairman of the GDA Anil Salgaoncar, would further strengthen the case against the speaker in the Supreme Court, sources said.
The Congress had already filed disqualification petitions against two MGP legislators following which the latter were debarred from voting in the House on July 30 by the speaker, whose decision was contested in the supreme court.
