Naik directs police to be vigilant
Panaji, Aug 8 (UNI) Goa Home Minister Ravi Naik today directed the state police to be vigilant against illegal construction of places of worship in order to prevent recurrence of communal violence in the state.
Addressing the review meeting of his ministry at the secretariat, Mr Naik asked the senior cops to prepare a detailed report on the identified sensitive areas for mounting vigil.
The communal flare-ups, like the last year's at Curchorem- Sanvordem, should not recur if adequate preventive measures are taken. The police should act tough under any such circumstances, he added.
Earlier, finance secretary Ramesh Negi urged the department heads to prepare a draft report by August 10 for the Eleventh Five Year Plan (2007-12) for Goa, with emphasis on police reforms and modernisation of the force including upgradation of communication facilities.
