Modi doubles pension money to freedom fighters
Gandhinagar, Aug 8 (UNI) Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today announced the government's decision to double the amount of monthly pension to freedom fighters from Rs 2,260 to Rs 5,000.
Mr Modi made the announcement on the eve of August 9, which marks the anniversary of 'Quit India Movement' of 1942.
''As we all are celebrating the anniversary of 'Quit India Movement' and moreover, the 150th anniversary of the first Indian struggle of 1857, it is our duty to pay out debt back to our freedom fighters,'' he said.
The monthly pension scheme would not be confined to just Gujarat but would also cover freedom fighters of Diu, Daman and Goa, he added.
