Meerut dy jailor killed following rivalry: Police
Lucknow, Aug 8 (UNI) The Meerut district jail deputy jailor was shot dead following an internal rivalry with his colleagues who had criminal links, initial police investigations have revealed.
A senior jail superitendent and two deputy jailors have, meanwhile, been detained for the murder of the deputy jailor.
An unidentified gunmen had yesterday evening shot dead deputy jailor Nagendra Kumar Dwivedi near the district prison when he was returning with his family after shopping.
Additional director general of police (Law and Order) Brij Lal said here senior jail superendent Yadvendra Shukla, suspended deputy jailor Avinash Chauhan and another deputy jailor R K Singh have been taken into custody for the sensational murder. The three were till recently posted at the Chaudhury Charan Singh Meerut district jail and had alleged links with criminals.
''Chauhan and Singh were also seen coming out of the district jail just before the incident,'' the official said.
Shukla, at present posted at Fatehgarh jail, had managed to revoke his suspension through the High Court. Inmates lodged in the jail celebrated the HC order.
Chauhan was suspended in March this year after mobile phones were recovered from the jail premises during a surprise raid.
Singh is presently posted in Mainpuri but was present in Meerut yesteray when Dwivedi was shot dead.
The slain official's brother-in-law S P Tiwari had lodged a complaint alleging the involvement of the three officials.
Meanwhile, the police believed that three undertrials Vickey, Joginder and Dharmendra, who had recently escaped from police custody were behind the killing.
