Lok Sabha speaker congratulates Shyam Benegal

New Delhi, Aug 8 (UNI) Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chatterjee today congratulated filmmaker Shyam Benegal for having been selected for the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Award.

In a message sent from Kent, UK, Mr Chatterjee said: ''Benegal richly deserves this award for taking the creative art of film making into a different plane altogether. I take pride in the fact I am one his colleagues in Parliament.'' His creative intellect has been an effective tool in addressing various social concerns through the very powerful medium that he is working with, he said.

''I am glad, Shri Benegal's extraordinary talent has been duly recognized by the country,'' the speaker added.
