Leaders pay tribute to Nirmal Mahto on Martyr's day

Jamshedpur, Aug 8 (UNI) Several leaders cutting across party lines today paid homage to slain Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Nirmal Mahto on his 20th death annivesary.

The JMM observed the day as Martyr's day and pay floral tributes to the statue of the departed leader, who was gunned down on this day in 1987 in front of the Chamaria guest house at Bistupur area here.

Among others the deputy chief minister and the younger brother of Nirmal Mahto, Sudhir Mahto, JMM vice-president Champai Soren, the JMM candidate for Jamshedpur Lok Sabha bypoll Suman Mahto, BJP leader Shailendra Mahto, AJSU leader and the former Jharkhand minister Sudesh Mahto, Jharkhand People's Party leader Surya Singh Besra, Congress leader Ramashray Prasad Singh and others garlanded the statue.

Speaking on the occasion the leaders vowed to fulfil the dream of Mr Mahto, who sacrificed his life for the creation of separate Jharkand state.

A huge rally was also organised at Ulyan,the birth place of Mr Mahto, this evening.

Several leaders including Rupi Soren, the wife of the jailed JMM supremo Shibu Soren, attended the meeting.
