Panaji, Aug 8 (UNI) A major landslide near Nagarcem tunnel in Canacona railway station under the Konkan Railway Corporation Limited route affected through-traffic between Margao and Mangalore since last evening.

A KRC spokesperson told UNI today that the through-traffic was likely to be restored this afternoon with the authorities deploying labour force to clear the debris.

All the trains going to and from Kerala in the route had either been cancelled or regulated at different station till the debris was cleared.

Pune-Bound Purna Express from Ernakulam was terminated at Canacona Railway Station following the incident which occured about 500 metres away from the station.

Matsyagandha Express and the Verna-Mangalore Express were also regulated following the landslide.

Konkan Railway had the distinction of several trains chugging through a number of tunnels dug by boring several hillocks. The authorities keep a continuous watch along the route to avert disasters particularly in the monsoon season.

Torrential downpour for the last five days in Goa, resulted in the landslide in the Konkan route which was prone to such accidents.
