Chennai, Aug 8 (UNI) Krishna water released from the Kandaleru reservoir in Andhra Pradesh to the inter-state border in Uthukottai, reached the Poondi reservoir here.

An initial inflow of about 200 cusecs was received at the Poondi reservoir in the morning, Metro water officials said here today.

With the beginning of supply from the Kandaleru reservoir, the city may look forward to sustained daily water supply in the coming months.

Officials said at present, about 250 cusecs was realised at Uthukottai.

The water discharge of about 600 cusecs from the Kandaleru Reservoir, which would be used for domestic consumption enroute, was to increase in the days to come.

The storage in the Poondi reservoir was maintained at 199 mcft to facilitate the inflow of water.

The water release from the Poondi reservoir was minimised to enable stepping up storage at the reservoir. Once storage was built up to sufficient level, water would be diverted to Red Hills or Chembarambakkam reservoirs for distribution.

Metrowater supplies about 645 million litres of water daily to the city, the officials added.
