HDK to lead an all party delegation to Centre

Bangalore, Aug 8: Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy will soon lead an all party delegation to the Centre to appeal for release of funds for taking up relief work in the flood affected areas in the State, Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa said today.

Talking to newsmen on the sidelines of launch of 'Bhagyalakshmi' scheme, he said that the government has submitted a memorandum to the Centre for release of Rs 300 crore immediately to take up relief works in the flood-hit districts.

Mr Yediyurappa said that 13 districts had been affected by heavy rains and floods and according to preliminary estimation the loss was to the extent of Rs 1,000 Crore. The rainfall so far received in the State was highest recorded in the last 30 years, he added.

Mr Yediyurappa said that himself and the Chief Minister would make an aerial survey tomorrow to take stock of the situation.

Earlier, Mr Kumaraswamy and Mr Yediyurappa distributed bonds to mark the launch of the much awaited 'Bhagyalakshmi' scheme which aims at providing security to girl children born in families below the poverty line. Under the scheme the government would deposit Rs 10,000 in the name of girl child born to family belonging to below poverty line family. The amount could be withdrawn with interest after the child attains 18 years of age.
