J and K to streamline food distribution in state

Srinagar, Aug 8 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir government will streamline the public distribution system in the state and make CAPD and Animal and Sheep Husbandry departments more transparent and people oriented.

This was announced by Minister for CAPD Taj Mohi-ud-Din in a press conference here today.

He said to cover the far-off and remote areas under public distribution system and create job avenues for educated unemployed youth, more than 2000 private sale outlets had been established in the state.

He said to streamline the distribution of kerosene oil coupon system had been introduced and permit system withdrawn to ensure that black-marketing of oil was checked.

Mr Taj appealed to the consumers that to register their grievances with regard to public distribution, black-marketing, over charging and scarcity, they should approach the higher authorities of CAPD, adding he can also be contacted for the purpose.

He assured prompt action against such malpractices at all levels and ensured action under the law against the defaulters and violators.

He said that a modern sheep mandi and abettoir was under construction at Wanihama on over 350 kanals of land.

The Minister said the mandi would accommodate 5000 sheep, besides a modern slaughter house and mutton sale outlets were also coming up in the mandi.

He said the mandi was being constructed by Wool Board and likely to be completed by the year end.

The Minister said there was no room for corrupt and erring elements in the departments under his control.

He said 36 officers involved in corruption had been booked and their properties were attached.

He said that an embezzlement of Rs 2.44 crore had been detected in the CAPD department and officials involved in the crime suspended.

He said the case was being referred to the Crime Branch, Kashmir for action against those involved.
