Its Congress' policy to provide lands to landless: AICC

Hyderabad, Aug 8 (UNI) All India Congres Committee (AICC) General Secretary Digvijay Singh today said it was the party policy to provide lands to landless poor in the country.

Mr Singh, who arrived here to participate in the 65th Anniversary of 'Quit India Day' and other party meetings, said the Congress was ready to discuss the land distribution for the poor with the Left.

He said both the Congress and the Left had same goal of providing social justice and lands to landless poor.

Andhra Pradesh government had taken up several welfare measures for the poor people in the state.

He said while the Left parties were demanding house sites for poor people, the state government had taken up 'INDIRAMMA' housing scheme to construct lakhs of houses for them.

He said the government had earmarked a budgetory allocation of Rs 5000 crore for the purpose.

The government was committed to strictly implement the assurances given in the election manifesto.

Andhra Pradesh was the only state in the country, which had taken up the biggest housing scheme to provide houses to the poor.

Earlier, Mr Singh held discussions with Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, APCC President K Keshava Rao and Government Advisor K V P Ramachandra Rao.

He said there was no question of changing the Chief Minister as demanded by the Left parties.

Later, he participated in the 65th Anniversary of 'Quit India Day' organised by the state unit of the National Students Union of India.

Mr Singh, who is also the in-charge of Andhra Affairs would participate in the party coordination committee meeting and the manifesto implementation committee meeting tomorrow.
