Hearing of petition challenging Lalu-Rabri's acquittal deferred

Patna, Aug 8 (UNI) Patna High Court today adjourned till September 12 the hearing of the state governments petition challenging acquittal of Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad and former chief minister Rabri Devi in the disproportionate assets case by a lower court.

A single bench of Justice R K Dutta adjourned the hearing of the petition after accepting the joint plea of counsels of the state government, CBI and the Lalu-Rabri duo.

The joint plea urged deferment of the hearing as leading advocates of Supreme Court would represent the respective parties and the lawyers concerned of the apex court were being contacted to seek their convenient time for making their submission before the bench.

Earlier, a special court of Patna had acquitted Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi on December 18,2006 in connection with the disproportionate assets case, which was an off-shoot of the much hyped animal husbandry scam.
