Gujarat Chief Secy to appear before Minorities Commission tomorrow
New Delhi, Aug 8 (UNI) The Gujarat Chief Secretary has been summoned by the National Commission for Minorities in connection with the delay in rehabilitation of 2002 riot victims.
The Chief Secretary will appear before the Commission tomorrow to explain the alleged failure of the state government to provide civic amenities to the affected people.
The summon to the Gujarat official had been sent by the Commission after its team visited the rehabilitation camps in the state in November-December.
''The team found that the conditions in the camps were very bad and people were living without basic civic amenities,'' a member of the Commission said. This is the second time the summon has been issued, he added.
Earlier, the National Human Rights Commission had also expressed its dissatisfaction with the delay in providing compensation to the victims.
