SINGAPORE, Aug 8 (Reuters) Gold eased on Wednesday on the back of a firmer U.S. dollar, while Tokyo futures extended gains and rose their highest in almost two weeks.

-- Spot gold dipped to $671.10/671.90 an ounce from $672.10/672.90 late in New York on Tuesday.

-- Most active June 2008 gold futures on the Tokyo Commodity Exchange hit an intraday high of 2,595 yen per gram on a weaker yen, its highest since July 26. That was 7 yen higher than Tuesday's close.

-- The most active December contract on ''mini'' gold futures contract rose 9 yen per gram to 2,580 yen.

-- The dollar rose against the yen after the U.S. Federal Reserve said inflation remains its primary concern, trimming expectations that it might move to cut interest rates.

-- Market players were still cautious about the possibility of widening fallout from a U.S. credit squeeze, and the performance of stocks continues to be a focus for the markets.

-- The dollar rose to 118.85 yen , and the euro was up 0.20 percent at 163.51 yen . The euro edged up to $1.3753 , but stayed near an overnight low of $1.3736 hit on electronic trading platform EBS.

-- Platinum fell to $1,280/1,285 from $1,281/1,284 an ounce.

-- Silver was steady at $13.05/13.08 an ounce.

-- Palladium fell to $358/363 an ounce from $359/361 an ounce.
