DHBVN to spend Rs 220 cr on new transformers

Hisar, Aug 8 (UNI) Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) plans to add 24,000 transformers to strengthen the power distribution system in its area at a cost of Rs 220 crore during the next four years.

A DHVBN spokesman today said with the installation of these transformers, the total number of transformers in the Nigam area would increase to about one lakh.

The DHBVN added about 7,000 transformers in the system during the last one year, taking the total number in its area to about 75,000.

The Nigam has launched a drive of repair and maintenance of existing distribution transformers. The field officers had been directed to complete the task by September this year.

Under this drive, a special survey would be conducted and the transformers, found installed for more than five years, would be overhauled.

He said in order to reduce the voltage drop in the lines to the farthest consumers, the distribution transformers would be located at the load centres. To bring the voltage drop within permissible limits, connections of the consumers would be relocated or the transformers would be replaced to load centres.

To ensure regular power supply at proper voltage, the Nigam had formulated a policy to increase length of high tension (HT) lines and reduce length of low tension lines (LT).

Under this policy, the Nigam had decided to release all tubewell connections on HT by installing independent transformers. The consumers of other categories were also being encouraged to take independent transformers, the spokesman said.

Industrial units having load of 250 KW or more had been allowed independent feeders and transformers, he added.
