Congress MLA escapes life bid by NSCN (IM) cadres
Kohima, Aug 8 (UNI) Senior Congress legislator Yamakam escaped an abortive attempt on his life inside his residence at Shamator town in Nagland's Tuensang district on Monday, a report received here said today.
Official sources said that two NSCN(IM) cadres had gone to the residence of Yamakam on Monday evening and demanded money. The MLA offered them Rs 5000, but they asked for more. When he refused to yield, one of them pulled out a pistol, and he was immediately overpowered by the people sitting inside the room. Then one of the outlaws fired at Yamakam, but the bullet misfired.
Then the two fled after being chased by the followers of the leader.
The people of the area took out a huge rally yesterday and demanded the NSCN(IM) leaders should hand over the cadres to the public. There was no response as yet.
The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) and Leader of Opposition I Imkong condemned the attempt on the life of a popular public leader and appealed to the Government to book the culprits and take appropriate action against them immediately.
