CITU takes out morcha to District collectorate
Nashik, Aug 8 (UNI) As part of the nation-wide strike, the Centre of Trade Unions (CITU) took out a morcha of unorganised sector workers to the district collectorate here today.
Nearly 2,000-2,500 workers from the unorganised sector, led by Maharashtra CITU unit general secretary Dr D L Karad, took part in the morcha.
Among the agitators were domestic helpers, construction workers, security guards, plumbers, labourers, autorickshaw drivers, vegetable vendors, sanitation workers, bidi wokers, rag pickers, farm labourers and sugarcane cutting workers.
Among the workers' organisations were Maharashtra Bhatkya Vimukta Jatee Sangh, Lokvikas Social organisation, Disha Foundation, Akhil Bharatiya Beldar Kumawat Sangh which participated in the morcha.
The morcha commenced from B D Bhalekar High School ground and passed through various parts of the city before concluding at the collectors office.
A delegation of various leaders included Bharatiya Adivasi Bhatkya Vimukta Mahila Front's Maharashtra unit president Sheela Suryavanshi, Bhatke Vimukta Sangh leaders G G Chavan, Motiram Rathod, CITU's district president Shreedhar Deshpande, secretary Seetaram Thombre, besides Dr Karad, addressed the morcha.
Later, they met Collector S Chokalingam and handed over a memorandum of their demands. The collector assured the delegation to consider their demands, especially of BPL yellow ration cards, houses and identity cards for the workers.
