BJP to launch 1857 celebrations from Ambala
Chandigarh, Aug 7 (UNI) The BJP will launch its nationwide celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the first war of Independence from Ambala with a massive 'torch march' on August 9.
Haryana BJP vice president Ratan Lal Kataria, who is the convenor of the event in the state, told reporters here that the march would be led by former party president Venkaiah Naidu.
The march would start from Rukmani Devi Hall and cover a distance of 4 km through the major markets of the city to culminate at Kali Paltan Pul where 1857 martyr Mohar Singh was executed by the British rulers.
Senior BJP leaders, including Mr Vijay Goel and state party president Atam Prakash Manchanda, would participate in the procession.
Mr Kataria said party chief Rajnath Singh would address a ''Shankhnad rally'' (Clarion Call) against the anti-people policies of the UPA government at Jind on August 26.
A rally would also be organised at Rohtak on October 27 on the occasion of birth anniversary of late BJP leader Dr Mangal Sen.
