'Attaining social justice'; goal of Cong, CPI, CPI(M)
Hyderabad, Aug 8 (UNI) All India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretary and MLC P Sudhakar Reddy today said the goal of the Congress, CPI and CPI(M) was attainment of social justice through several measures, including land reforms and distribution of land to the landless poor.
In a letter to CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat and CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan, a copy of which was released to the press here today, Mr Reddy said infact it was during the Congress rule headed by late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, that land reforms got a head start.
While condemning the police firing in Mudigonda, in which seven people were killed, he said, ''we are collectively waging a battle against poverty compounded by socio-economic inequalities on the one side and communal and opportunistic political elements on the other.'' He said the Congress government, headed by Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, was just doing what was expected of it.
The AICC Secretary said as far as fixing the responsibility for the Mudigonda incident was concerned, the Judicial inquiry ordered by the state government would submit the report soon. Relief had been provided to the victims and the injured were already taken care of by the administration, he claimed.
He said the actions by the state government in maintaining law and order, in such difficult situations, should not be construed as something meant to oppress legitimate political activity and democratic rights.
He said the party would seek information from all the partners of the UPA, especially from CPI-M and CPI in Andhra Pradesh.
He said, ''We will stand united in ensuring that communal and opportunistic regional political elements are kept at bay, as the party concern is to rededicate ourselves to march together in our goal to ensure social justice and economic progress and improvement of living standards.'' UNI
