AP Govt releases TG water to Chennai

Tirupati, Aug 8 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Minister for Major Irrigation Ponnala Lakshmaiah today released Telugu Ganga(TG) water to Chennai at 'zero point flume' near Desukuppam on the Andhra-Tamil Nadu border, about 100 Kms from here.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the water would reach Poondi reservoir with full capacity of 3 TMC, in two to three-days. Later, about 2 TMC water would reach Chennai, he added.

Mr Lakshmaiah, who released TG water from Kandaleru on August three for the drinking water needs of Tirupati, Tirumala and Chennai residents, said about Rs 1700 crore was spent for the project.

The Minister said Andhra Pradesh would follow the inter-state river agreement and expect Karnataka and Maharashtra to reciprocate whenever the State faces water shortage.

Satyavedu MLA Narayana Swamy, Chennai-based PWD Secretary Mr Adhishashaiah, Chennai Metropolitan Managing Director Shiva Das Meena, TG Executive Engineer Mr Narayana Swamy, were among others present on the occasion.
