Hyderabad, Aug 8 (UNI) Expressing concern over emission of carbon leading to pollution, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today said his Government would play a part in reducing global warming by separating and storing carbon-di-oxide.

Showing keen interest in the latest technology, developed by the Earth Institute of Columbia University, led by its Director Jeffrey Sachs, who made a detailed presentation on development of low-carbon energy from coal through the techniques of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), Dr Reddy assured them that the State Government would be totally with them in this onerous task.

He directed the officials to interact with the Columbia team on the project.

Stating that CCS engineering and research was in early stage in the US and European countries, Mr Sachs said carbons emanating from coal burning in thermal power projects would be captured and stored under the Earth in a scientific way so that they do not pollute the atmosphere, thereby containing the resultant global warming to a maximum extent possible.

All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary and state party incharge Digvijay Singh and officials concerned also participated in the programme.
