AAPSU to relaunch Operation Clean Drive against illegal migrants
Itanagar, Aug 8 (UNI) The All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) has decided to re-launch its ''operation clean drive'' from August 17 to 30 in view reported influx of illegal migrants into the state capital.
AAPSU recently pushed back more than 5000 illegal Bangladeshi settlers from the state under the operation clean drive movement.
The union also decided to formally launch the phase-II of the operation in East Siang district after having consultation with district unit, informed AAPSU sources here today.
While welcoming the initiative of Assam government to review the functioning of foreigners' tribunal and to maintain National Register of Citizen up to date, the union urged the neighboring state to admit that ''Assam is the safe haven for illegal migrants from where they are sneaking into other north eastern states''.
The union also urged the Papum Pare district administration to stop issuance of temporary inner line permit to labourers during its proposed operation.
Meanwhile, around 1500 students representing different bodies of West Kameng district took out a rally at Bomdila yesterday to protest the district administration's alleged failure to respond to the demands of the operation clean drive committee under All West Kameng Students' Union within seven days. Threatening rigorous movement in favour of its demands, the union resented that despite expiry of 7-day ultimatum, the administration failed to address its demands which included early detection and deportation of foreign nationals, cancellation of land allotment to refugees besides reconsideration of refugee card to Tibetans.
