45 cases of fever being monitored in Manipur for bird flu

New Delhi, Aug 8 (UNI) The health status of 45 people suffering from fever/ARI is being monitored while 359 cullers/supportive staff are being administered Tamiflu in Manipur to protect them from Avian Influenza.

The situation is being closely monitored and as of now there has been no case of spread of bird flu among humans, an official release said here today.

The health status of the cullers is being monitored in the state and 359 cullers/supportive staff have been examined and put under cover of Tamiflu.

The population in the infected zone within a radius of three Kms from Chingmeirong Village in East Imphal, where the disease was first notified last month, are under active surveillance on daily basis by health teams comprising of 600 personnel. The surveillance teams would cover 44,722 houses with a population of 2,33,981 till Monday.

Surveillance activity is also continuing with 152 health workers in the three to ten Kms zone where 5,579 houses with a population of 31,536 in Khumbong, Naoriya, Pakhanglakpa, Topkhabi, Keibi, Langthabalphuramkhong, Mongsangei, Takkhokmakha, Nandeibam leikai, Okram leikai areas have been covered. In this zone, 16 cases of fever/ARI were detected but none of them had history of having handled sick/dead birds.

The Central Rapid Response Team of Ministry of Health is assisting the State Government. Arrangements have been made in J N Hospital, Imphal for isolation and critical care. This is in addition to the critical care facilities available at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal.

Adequate supply of logistics with 15000 capsule of Tamiflu, 1000 N-95 masks and 2000 personal protective gears have been made available to the State Government.
