2.43 lakh tonne imported pulses arrive at Indian ports

New Delhi, Aug 8 (UNI) To maintain the prices of pulses, public sector agencies have contracted import of 10.40 lakh tonne pulses till July 31, 2007, of which 2.43 lakh tonne has already reached Indian ports.

The imported pulses include urad, moong, dunpeas, masoor, chickpeas, yellow peas and channa.

Retail prices of essential commodities at four metropolitan cities remained stable or shown mixed trend in the week ending August 3. Prices of wheat, rice, gram, sugar, vanaspati, and salt were steady over the week.

Price movement of essential commodites was monitored by the Department of Consumer Affairs.

Prices declined in the case of tea by Rs 2 per kg in Delhi, potato by Rs 1.50 per kg in Delhi, 50 paise each in Mumbai and Kolkata and onion by 50 paise per kg each in Delhi and Mumbai.

Prices of atta increased Re 1 per kg in Kolkata, gram dal by Re 1 per kg and milk by Re 1 per litre in Delhi, tur dal by Rs 2 per kg in Mumbai and by Re 1 in Kolkata, groundnut oil by Rs 4 per kg and mustard oil by Rs. 2 per kg in Kolkata.

In Delhi, prices remained steady over the week and month, while there has been rise in prices over one year period. Prices of groundnut oil increased from Rs 85 per kg to Rs 107, tur from Rs 33 per kg to Rs 39, vanaspati from Rs 50 per kg to Rs 59 and milk from Rs 16 per litre to Rs 19. Prices of sugar declined from Rs 21 per kg to Rs 16 over the year.
