2 sentenced to life in double murder case

Varanasi, Aug 8 (UNI) Two persons accused in a 2002 double murder case have been sentenced to life in prison by a Fast Track Court (FTC) here.

FTC judge (IV) M P Chowdhary yesterday sentenced Mohd Sartaj alias Raju and Sanjay to life in prison after holding them guilty for the murder of Batoolan Bibi (80) and her grand daughter Salika in Adampura area of the city on August 28, 2002.

Prosecution said both the accused had murdered Batoolan and Salika after looting valuables.

After taking into account the available evidence and statements of witnesses in the case, the judge sentenced both the accused to life imprisonment alongwith a fine of Rs 8,000 each. The court also slapped a penalty of Rs 5,000 each on the two accused for looting valuables from Batoolan's house.

The court also sentenced a jeweller Ghanshyam Seth to imprisonment of a year and half, besides imposing a fine of Rs 3,000 on him for buying the looted jewellery from Raju and Sanjay.
