Unorganised sector workers to participate in CITU's 24 hr strike
Kolkata, Aug 7(UNI) Workers of unorganised sectors will participate in tomorrow's CITU-sponsored 24-hour countrywide strike, its state president Shyamal Chakravarty today said.
Talking to mediapersons, Mr Chakravarty said taxis, auto rickshaws, van and rickshaw pullers, security personnel at the ATMs and several other unorganised workers would participate in the strike.
''The strike has been called in support of the 15-point charter of demands and protest the Congress-led UPA government's 'non -implementation' of National Common Minimum Programme(NCMP),'' said Mr Chakravarty. The 15-point demands included social security to the unorganised sector workers, same wages for men and women labourers and a national policy for them.
''Though the Centre had assured in the CMP that the unorganised sector workers would be protected by the social security, it was yet to be implemented even after three years of its rule,'' he said.
Mr Chakravarty said private and mini buses would ply normally.
All the emergency services, including newspapers, hospitals, have been kept outside the purview of the strike.
