Three injured in firing on eve of MC poll in Punjab
Ludhiana, Aug 7 (UNI) Three persons, including two Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) supporters sustained bullet injuries in the Shimlapuri area of the city on the eve of Municipal Corporation polls here this evening.
According to police sources, the SAD activists, Raman and Sukhbir were fired upon by the husband of an independent candidate from Ward No 64, when they took objection to their party posters and banners being pulled down. Besides Raman and Sukhbir, a passer-by identified as Dhashrath also sustained pellet injuries.
The supporters of SAD candidate, Sunita Rani caught hold of Kuldip Singh, the alleged culprit and after thrashing him handed him over to the police.Kuldip Singh is the husband of Ranjit Kaur, a rebel SAD candidate from the ward.
The police has registered a case against the accused. The injured were admitted to the DMC hospital and were stated to be out of danger.
Besides Ludhiana, polls are also being held for the MCs of Amritsar, Jalandhar and Patiala tomorrow.
