Guj: Sabarmati does major overhaul of MG locos
Ahmedabad, Aug 7: The Sabarmati diesel shed of Western Railway's (WR) Ahmedabad division has carried out a major overhaul of existing metre gauge locomotives, encompassing a large number of modifications, recently.
The major overhaul was carried out of drivers' cabins and polyurethane painting of locomotives for export to foreign countries like Myanmar and Tanzania.
The first three locomotives in the series of 15 locomotives, which have been readied for export to Myanmar, were flagged off on July 12 formally by WR (Mumbai) Chief Mechanical Engineer S C Agarwal in the presence of Ahmedabad Divisional Railway Manager Rajiv Misra, RITES General Manager Amitabh Sinha and Sabarmati Sr DME (Dsl) Vishal Kapoor in diesel shed of Sabarmati, a WR release said here today.
This is the first time in the history of Indian Railways that a diesel locomotive shed has undertaken overhaul of such a magnitude for export to foriegn countries. By carrying out the work, the shed has managed to earn revenue of Rs 5.23 crore, the cheque of which was formally presented by Mr Sinha to Mr Agarwal on the occasion.
