Oppositions demand CBI inquiry into fake medicine, female foeticide

Bhubaneswar, Aug 7 (UNI) Four Opposition political parties in Orissa today decided to urge governor Rameswar Thakur for a CBI inquiry into the trading of alleged spurious medicines and female foeticide in the state.

This decision was taken at a joint meeting attended by among others Orissa Gana Parishad president Bijay Mohapatra, CPI leader Dibakar Naik, Santosh Das of CPI(M) and K C Patra of Janata Dal(S).

They would submit a memorandum to the Governor demanding a CBI inquiry into the cases that rocked the state for past weeks.

They, however, are yet to fix a date for submission of such memorandum.

The Opposition also decided to organise meetings and launch a signature campaign across the state to elicit public opinion against the crimes, OGP secretary Debi Ray here said.

The opposition leaders also blamed the ruling BJD-BJP government for the suffering of the people due to the recent flood and rains and alleged that the government had totally failed to carry out relief work for flood affected people.

They demanded that the government should overcome its weak points and expedite the relief and rescue work in Cuttack city which was virtually under water for last two days triggered by heavy rains and depression in the Bay of Bengal UNI BD DP PC MSJ RAI2127
