Port Blair: 1 held for growing and selling Ganja
Port Blair, Aug 07: Andaman and Nicobar Police have apprehended a resident of Havelock Islands for cultivating gajna and recovered 1.910 kg of ganja from his possession.
Dinesh Sikdar of Havelock was apprehended following receipt of information that a cultivator of Radha Nagar, Havelock, was growing Ganja on the land adjacent to his residence and selling it, Ashok Chand the Superintendent of Andaman District told media today.
The must visit, Havelock Island is world famous for its scenic beauty and a den for backpacker tourists mostly, hippies.
A police team and two independent witnesses raided the place and found ganja plants of different sizes. 5 big plants, 45 small plants and 120 saplings were seized.
On weighing, it was found to be 1.910 Kg. Dinesh Sikdar was arrested and a case under the N0PS Act registered. On interrogation Dinesh Sikdar disclosed that he was growing Ganja to sell it, Mr Chand added.
This is the third such incident reported from Andaman and Nicobar Islands within a month. With the increasing demand from tourists, police believe that ganja business was also flourishing in these islands.
