MPCC asks CM to ensure party workers interests
Mumbai, Aug 7 (UNI) The Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) today asked Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh to sort out problems of party's district units, where it is felt that the Guardian ministers, belonging to the coalition partner NCP, do not take cognizance of the Congress workers.
This was decided at a meeting held here, where Mr Deshmukh, AICC general secretary Margaret Alva, party ministers, state unit chief Prabha Rau and office-bearers were present.
Talking to reporters here, Ms Rau said the district unit office-bearers complained that Guardian ministers, belonging to NCP, do not include Congress workers in many district level committees and also ignore them in appointments of Special executive officers (SEOs).
''In such a scenario, the CM will use his authority and ensure that the Congress workers are not neglected,'' she added.
She said the party was of the view that the Srikrishna Commission, which probed the Mumbai riots of 1992-93, should be implemented and justice be given to the victims.
Replying to questions, she said the high command had taken serious note of the Wakf land scam.
Ms Rau said a programme committee has been constituted to chalk out party conventions and meetings in different parts of the state in a bid to galavanise the party cadre.
She refused to comment on reports that a change of guard in the government and party organisation was on cards.
