Mizo chief secretary supports state's need for port
Aizawl, Aug 07 (UNI) Mizoram Chief Secretary Haukhum Hauzel has stressed on the need to have a seaport in the state to explore the benefits of the proposed Look East Policy.
Talking at a meeting on the LEP arranged by External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee here yesterday, Mr Hauzel said the proposed Kolodyne multi-modal transport project should be implemented and a seaport be constructed here for transportation of goods from the nearest Kaletwa port in Myanmar.
He had already submitted a proposal to the Prime Minister's Office for the port's construction.
There was a lack of awareness as to how much India, NE in particular, would benefit from the LEP, he said suggesting that Indian Chamber of Commerce officials and experts in foreign trade should also be included in the meeting.
He also stressed on the improvement of Lengpui airport and set up land custom station at Tlabung for Indo-Bangla trade.
The proposed Agartala-Kolkata highway, passing through Bangladesh, should be connected to Aizawl and roads be constructed from Champhai in the state to the Rih lake in Myanmar, the chief secretary added.
