Land scamster Ashok Malhotra remanded to 14-day CBI custody
New Delhi, Aug 7 (UNI) A special CBI court today remanded Ashok Malhotra, prime suspect in the multi-crore land scam case, to 14-day custody of the investigating agency.
Judge S K Kaushik asked the CBI to investigate into the fake ration cards, identity cards and allotment papers of the jhuggis found in Malhotra's house during the raid.
The court also asked the agency to investigate where Malhotra had been in the past 4-5 days after the scam came to light and whom he had contacted during that period.
Malhotra was arrested yesterday by the CBI after making a sensational appearance in the studio of a private news channel in Noida.
Ashok Malhotra, 52, is being accused of siphoning off millions of rupees in collusion with five Delhi Development Authority (DDA) officials and a private contractor, by selling plots meant for allotment to displaced slum-dwellers between 2000 and 2002.
