International conference in Goa on retaining talent
Panaji, Aug 7 (UNI) A two-day international conference on retaining talent will be held in south Goa from August 11 with eminent people from India and abroad sharing knowledge and strategies with Indian industrialists and management institutions.
Representatives of the Goa Institute of Management (GIM), organising the event christened 'Castalia', told mediapersons here today that the pharmaceutical industry had been the worst-affected with reports of 30 per cent attrition.
This was followed by the Information Technology (IT), IT-enabled services and the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) units besides other service industries, according to a preliminary survey, the organisers said.
The event, to be attended by about 100 delegates including the students of the GIM, would spell out strategies to retain and enrich the talent sector-wise.
The rate of employee attrition was higher in the pharma sector, particularly among the scientists who had to slog for several years to discover a molecule. With more opportunities from abroad tapping them with higher returns, the scientists have started leaving the sector.
Same is the fate of the IT industry, particularly associated with big names in the sector, causing concern to the industry even as it has been offering attractive salaries and perks.
The eminent speakers addressing the issue include Derrick Barton, CEO, Centre for Talent Research, USA; Jo Verde, Senior Director, JeMM Consultants, Montreal; Adil Malia, group president (HR), Essar Group; E Balaji, COO, Ma Foi Management Consultants and Ranjan Acharya, HR Head at Wipro, Bangalore.
Castalia, conceptualised in November last, had tremendous support from the industry including Infosys while the Human Capital Institute was its knowledge partner and Naukri.com its online media partner.
Other sponsors of the event include SAP Labs, Oriental Insurance, Sum Total Systems, Deloitte and Adrenalin e-Systems.
