Govt gives Lutyen's bungalow to Mayawati for Kanshiram's memoria

New Delhi, Aug 7 (UNI) Despite objections from some quarters, the Government has given permission to BSP Chief Mayawati to convert a bungalow in the Lutyen's Zone here into a memorial for the late party founder-leader Kanshiram.

The bungalow, 10 Rakabganj Road is close to the BSP headquarter in the capital which is the 12th on the same road.

''Work on the construction of the memorial for Kanshiramji will start soon,'' a party source told UNI.

The permission was given last week by the Union Urban Development Ministry after a long consideration over the demand, as it had to take care of some complicated issues invloved.

According to rules no memorials can be constructed in the Lutyen's Zone.

According to media reports, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Meira Kumar had reacted sharply to the BSP demand for the memorial. She had written a letter to the Ministry demanding that 6, Krishna Menon Marg where her father Jagjivan Ram had resided for 40 years be allowed to be converted into a memorial for him.

The Congress considers Jagjivan Ram as a highly respected, popular and significant Dalit figure.

The accession to Ms Mayawati's demand may encourage other partries too to make similar demands to the Governmemnt for memorials of their leaders.

The Ministry is already facing the problem of shortage of bungalows for VVIPs.
