SINGAPORE, Aug 7 (Reuters) Gold eased on Tuesday as investors awaited direction from the currency market ahead of U.S. Federal Reserve's policy meeting later in the session.

-- Spot gold fell to $670.90/671.50 an ounce from $671.05/671.65 late in New York on Monday.

-- Most active June 2008 gold futures on the Tokyo Commodity Exchange rose 13 yen per gram to 2,587 yen after ending 6 yen lower the previous day.

-- The most active December contract on ''mini'' gold futures contract rose 20 yen per gram to 2,575 yen.

-- The dollar steadied against the yen on Tuesday after rallying in the previous session on a strong recovery in the U.S. stock market, which helped ease investor worries about a credit squeeze.

-- The Fed is expected to keep interest rates on hold at 5.25 percent. Many traders expect the Fed to reiterate its previous view, emphasizing inflationary pressures as the predominant risk to its scenario for the economy.

-- The dollar was down at 118.72 yen . The euro was up 0.1 percent at $1.3812 .

-- Platinum rose to $1,287/1,292 from $1,292/1,296 an ounce.

-- Silver edged up to $12.98/13.02 an ounce from $12.91/12.95 an ounce.

-- Palladium hardly moved at $361/366 an ounce.
