Girls must have choice to select subject of study: HC

Allahabad, Aug 7 (UNI) The Allahabad High Court has ruled that girls must have the choice of the subject to study and pursue their studies in the best educational institution.

Justice Sunil Ambwani also observed that the Uttar Pradesh government cannot put unreasonable restriction on the choice of studying in a school on the ground of sex.

Dismissing a writ petition filed by management committee of a girls' school at district Jalaun, the HC noted ''the directions, which restricts the admission of girl students to boys' school are arbritrary and flouting of Article 14 and 15 of the Indian Constitution.

The petitioner had sought court's direction that boys' schools be directed not to admit girls.
