Floods wash away vehicles and agricultural land in HP

Shimla, Aug 7 (UNI) Flash floods triggered by heavy rains in the high altitude areas of the district, in four rivulets of Thingi Nullah, Morang, Gangarang and Thungse Nullah caused huge losses to private and public property, official sources said.

The sources told UNI an ITBP truck, carrying 80 barrels of kerosense oil, and an Alto car were washed away due to floods in Thingi Nullah in Pooh sub-division of the district last night.

Two shops were completely damaged due to flash floods in Thungse Nullah in Kalpa sub-division of the district. Besides vast stretch of agricultural land was washed away, they said.

A person injured in the floods had been provided an immediate cash relief of Rs 5,000 by the district administration.

A cloud burst in Rampur area of Shimla district has severed road link between Rampur, Rohru and Taklech in the district.

Light to moderate rains lashed mid and lower hills of the state during the last 24 hrs, the met office said.

Shimla with 29 mm of rain was the wettest place in the state during the last 24 hrs, while Nurpur in Kangra district recorded 19 mm, Kasol in Bilaspur 12.7 mm, Rohru and Jubbal, both in Shimla district, recorded 11.9 mm and 10 mm, while Arki in Solan district experienced 11.4 mm rains.

The met office said Una recorded 7.2 mm rains followed by seven and 6.2 mm rains at Sangla and Kalpa, both in Kinnuar district, Jhanduta in Bilaspur district recorded 6.3 mm rains.

The famous tourist resorts of Kullu, Manali, Dalhousie and Dharamshala recorded no rainfall during the last 24 hrs, it said.

Dharamshala has recorded 1,293 mm of rains since June one followed by 938.6 mm rain at Nahan in Sirmaur district and 780.6 mm rain at Palampur in Kangra district.

The met office said the day temperature at Shimla town fell to 22.6 degree Celsius from yesterday's 23.2 degrees, while it fell to 33 degrees at Sundernagar from 33.3 degree Celsius yesterday.

However, the maximum temperature at Bhuntar rose by over two degrees to 33.4 from 31 degree Celsius yesterday, along with Kalpa, which recorded a high of 24 degrees in comparison to yesterday's 23.6 degree Celsius, it said.

The minimum temperature at Shimla dropped to 15.6 degrees, while Sundernagar and Bhuntar recorded night temperatures of 20 and 10.2 degree Celsius respectively, the met office said.

The minimum at Dharamshala stood at 21.5 degrees followed by 20 at Solan, 20.2 at Palampur, 25.3 at Nahan and 22.8 degree Celsius at Una.
