A 35-year-old women killed and a fishermen drowned
Mangalore, Aug 7 (UNI) A 35 year-old woman died when the roof of a house collapsed on her due to heavy rain at Katipalla near Suratkal, about 30 km from here in the early hours of today.
A fishermen, hailing from Tamil Nadu, who had ventured into rough sea was drowned.
Official sources told UNI that two fishermen had ventured into the rough sea when they were thrown out of their boat last evening.
However, one fisherman was saved by fishermen in other boat, another drowned in the sea. The body was yet to be recovered.
Several fishing boats which have gone on fishing on August 3 were still caught up in the rough sea and could not reach the shore.
Meanwhile, heavy rain continued to lash for the fourth day in the undivided Daxina Kannada district and low-lying areas in several parts still remained flooded with rain water.
The water level at Netravathy River near Bantwal has reached 8.2 mts against the maximum level of 8.5 mts. The other rivers in Udupi district including Sowpernika, Panchagangavali, Chakra, Halady and Varahi were still in spate. Several low-lying areas in Kundapura taluk in Udupi district were still submerged in the rain water.
About seven houses including six in Kundapura taluk and one in Udupi taluk were partially damaged. Tenginamane area in Nada village in Kundapura was marooned since yesterday due to continued rain. The rain water from Kubja River at Kamalashile in Kundapura yesterday entered the sanctum sanctorum of famous old Sri Bramhi Durgaparameshwari temple.
Sullya in Daxina Kannada and Kundapura in Udupi received the highest rainfall of 13 cms till 0800 hrs today followed by Puttur and Bantwal 12 cms, Belthangady 11 cms, Karkala and Mangalore 9cms and Udupi 6 cms.
